On Saturday, Bengaluru police uncovered the severely decomposed body of a 59-year-old British national, identified as Gavin James Young, a chef previously residing in the US, in an apartment in Koramangala VII Block. According to the experts, Young is believed to have died by suicide, potentially from a medication overdose. A suicide note was found at the scene, as reported by police officials.
Gavin James Young, who had rented the apartment from Jagadish via Airbnb on July 1, had requested Jagadish not to contact him until August 1 due to work commitments involving night shifts. When residents of the building noticed a foul odor coming from the flat and alerted Jagadish, he tried to contact Young but was unsuccessful. After forcibly entering the apartment, Jagadish discovered Young's decomposed body and immediately reported it to the authorities, according to the report.
The police have placed Young's body in a mortuary and are coordinating with the UK embassy to inform his family. A case of suspicious death has been filed, the report noted.
At the scene, authorities found syringes and several strips of medication. Young, who was diabetic and used insulin, also had medications for blood pressure and other health issues. The presence of numerous pill strips, including some that were empty, suggests a possible overdose. The police believe the death likely occurred on August 1, but an autopsy will confirm the exact time and cause. There were no signs of forced entry or struggle, the publication added.
